“BAY EXERCISE”
AIR/SEA DISASTER DRILL
On Thursday, April 23, 2009 multiple agencies will come together to conduct a drill to test their readiness and skills in responding to a major emergency incident that occurs along the Los Angeles County coastline. The drill will focus not only on response to such an incident, but also the coordination and cooperation among agencies that is necessary to ensure timely actions.
WHO: The Los Angeles County Fire Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and US Coast Guard, in conjunction with Los Angeles Fire Department, Los Angeles Police Department, Santa Monica Police Department, FBI, NTSB, Los Angeles World Airports Police Department and Airport Operations, Department of Beaches and Harbor, Redondo Beach Fire Department, Los Angeles County Department of Coroner, California Highway Patrol, and Long Beach Fire Department.
WHEN: Thursday, April 23, 2009, 9:00 a.m.
WHERE: Burton Chace Park, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey, CA 90292.
The exercise will commence at 9:00 a.m. at the boat launch at Mindanao and Admiralty Way (TB 672-B7). Viewing area located at Public Parking Lot #4 on Mindanao Way.
SCENARIO: A commercial airliner experiences mechanical failure 4 minutes after
take-off from LAX, attempts to return to LAX, and disappears from radar.
VISUALS: Take-offs and landings of helicopters, a triage area and treatment area with emergency personnel, and rescue boats transporting victims and debris from the simulated crash site.
