YAROSLAVSKY MOURNS PASSING OF

LONGTIME WEST HOLLYWOOD CITY

COUNCILMEMBER SAL GUARRIELLO

Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky today issued the following statement on today’s passing of longtime West Hollywood City Councilmember Sal Guarriello:

I am genuinely saddened by today’s sudden passing of West Hollywood City Councilman Sal Guarriello.

It was my privilege as both a Los Angeles City Councilman and a County Supervisor to work often with Sal on many issues. He loved people, and he especially loved the people of West Hollywood. A senior citizen himself when he entered public life as a civic activist and as an elected official, his passionate advocacy for our County’s seniors was legendary. As a veteran who was wounded in combat and served as a medic during World War II, he took a special interest in the welfare of our men and women returning from battle overseas. Sal fought hard for renters’ rights, and championed the needs of the growing Russian population that increasingly came to call West Hollywood home over the last two decades.

Above all, Sal was a friend with whom I deeply enjoyed serving over several decades.  We are all grateful for the 90 years he shared with us on this earth, and the good things he was able to accomplish that helped make it a better world.
