Guided nature walks offered free at Dockweiler State Beach

                                          BEACH NATURE WALKS OFFERED AT

                                                   DOCKWEILER STATE BEACH

 

 

PLAYA DEL REY, CALIF. – August 11, 2010 - The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors is teaming up with the Los Angeles Audubon Society to provide free, guided nature walks on Dockweiler State Beach.    

            Participants will get the opportunity to observe shore birds and explore their natural habitat, including the Western Snowy Plover, a tiny threatened shore bird that spends its life on the beach eating, sleeping, resting and laying its eggs in shallow nests in the sand.

Scheduled dates for the nature walks are:  Thursdays; August 12, September 16, October 7 and November 4 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and Saturdays; August 21, September 11, October 16 and November 13 from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. 

Meeting location for the nature walks is the Dockweiler Youth Center, 12505 Vista del Mar, Los Angeles.  Parking is available for $2.00 with the purchase of a parking permit from Dockweiler Youth Center staff.
