SHERIFF BACA UNVEILS A NEW DEVICE INTENDED TO STOP OR DECREASE INMATE ASSAULTS

 

Who:               Sheriff Lee Baca, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department; Mike Booen, Vice President of Advanced Security and Directed Energy Systems, Raytheon Company.

 

 

What:              The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will conduct an operational evaluation of a new device intended to stop or lessen the severity of inmate assaults.  This new device, known as the Assault Intervention Device, transmits a focused, invisible millimeter wave at a suspect which causes an intolerable heating sensation.  This device will be unveiled and utilized at the Pitchess Detention Center’s North County Correction Facility.
