TONIGHT: Molina and Community Celebrate Gang Violence Reduction at National Night Out

SUPERVISOR GLORIA MOLINA AND LOCAL RESIDENTS CELEBRATE SAFE AND BEAUTIFIED COMMUNITY AT VALINDA CORRIDOR NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

 

Community Celebrates Reduction in Gang Violence and Community Improvements

 

VALINDA (August 3, 2010) – Gang violence is down and community improvements are up in the Valinda Corridor -- and local residents and Neighborhood Watch groups are celebrating at the Valinda Corridor National Night Out and Community March at Rimgrove Park.   The free event begins with march and free concert.  In addition to resources and information booths, other family activities include game booths, childrens’ face painting, watermelon eating and pie throwing contests, raffle prizes, giveaways, and much more.

 

“We are proud of the partnership efforts between the County, Sheriff and community that have led to a significant reduction in gang violence in the Valinda Corridor,” said Molina.  “Tonight, we celebrate a safe community and major community improvements.” 

 

Molina Public safety resources and community beautification projects include: Sheriff’s Vandalism Enforcement Team; funding for increased sheriff’s patrol; Summer Gang Enforcement team; additional sheriff’s deputies.  Community beautification projects and landscaping.  At local parks - new playground equipment, recreation community Center, Splash Pads, Skate Park, new playground, synthetic soccer fields, fitness equipment, and five acre park in the works to include universal access playground, skate park and picnic areas.

 

National Night Out heightens crime prevention awareness; generates support and participation in local anticrime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Sponsor is the national sponsor.  In 2009, more than 30 million people participated from 14,625 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.  This year’s National Night Out is expected to be the largest ever.
