NOTICE: Marriage Licenses for Same-Sex Couples May Not Be Issued

Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean Logan today announced that, in compliance with the Ninth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals to stay the decision issued by Federal Court Judge Vaughn R. Walker the RR/CC is prohibited from issuing marriage licenses and/or performing civil marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples, until further action by the court.

At this time, the expanded services announced by the Department on Friday, August 13, 2010 have been cancelled until further notice.  This includes expanded hours for Marriage Licenses on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 and walk-in civil marriage ceremonies from August 19, 2010 to August 27, 2010.

“We will continue to monitor any new developments and will, if directed by order of the court, act accordingly to implement the Court’s ruling once it becomes effective,” said Dean Logan.
