L A County Lifeguards Win 24th Consecutive National Championship

LA County Lifeguards Take It Again

at U.S. Lifesaving Association National Championships

 

Los Angeles – August 9, 2010 – The Los Angeles County Lifeguard Association (LACOLA) team has successfully defended their title and brought home their 24th consecutive United States Lifesaving National Championship this past weekend. 

Since the competition began in 1970, LA County has won the team title 37 times.  The 2010 USLA Lifesaving Championships was hosted August 5-7 by the Huntington State Beach Lifeguard Association (HSBLA) in Huntington Beach, California.

Top individual titles also went to LA County lifeguards Allison Riddle in the women’s overall title and Brian Murphy in the men’s overall title. 

Over 400 professional lifeguards from around the nation competed for the National Championship.  The competitors from LA County this year are ranged in age from 18-72 years. The competition is comprised of individual and team events that challenge the competitors’ lifesaving skills in events that include swimming, running, paddling and rowing.
